hi my name is joshua benjamen (they//themme), and i am a trauma-informed peer support practitioner based in tiohtià:ke/montréal. i am also a gender/queer multidisciplinary artist, a mental health service user, and mental health & disability justice activist.

i am currently completing a bachelors in psychology, have completed trauma-informed peer support training from a registered social worker, and have a background of anti-oppressive politics that are inextricable from my practise. in the last three years i have worked in various settings including in my peer support practice, a psychiatric transition rehabilitation centre, a halfway house, a wet shelter as a volunteer, and as a psw for disabled kin. as much as formal training is important, i consider my work experience and lived experience as an equally valuable knowledge base for working with disabled and neurodiverse clients.

over the years i have changed careers multiple times from construction worker and contractor to psychosocial.e intervenant.e. throughout this time i have come to settle into my identity and learned much about what it means to be myself, my values, and what i need to feel accomplished and healthy. i have worked with diverse populations and have developed a thorough (yet forever expanding) anti-oppressive politic that guides my care model in a format that i believe puts people and communities first.

our sessions can include various modes of support including but not limited to: peer-supported task initiation strategic planning and task prioritization brain-dump diction and organization transcription for documents or emails co-navigation of bureaucratic processes finding and accessing external resources navigating accessibility technology reformatting documents for accessibility emotional regulation skill sharing emotional support and encouragement meeting notes/plans emailed to you post-session or others as needed!

if my experiences and approach resonate with you, then let’s talk! you can reserve a 30 minute session at no cost, using janeapp. i’ll listen to what you would like to work on and share my approach to coaching with you.
